The driver flow

From RUC purchase to windscreen display

myRUC keeps the familiar RUC process, but removes the manual label printing and windscreen paperwork.

  1. Add your vehicle

Create your myRUC account, add the vehicle details, and connect the display to the vehicle it will be used in.

  2. Buy your RUC

Purchase Road User Charges through the app or portal. The government RUC charge is still set by Waka Kotahi / NZTA.

  3. Transfer the licence

Send the new RUC licence to the myRUC e-ink display so the current licence can be shown inside the windscreen.

  4. Drive with a visible licence

The display shows the current licence details clearly, replacing the traditional paper label for supported vehicles.

For myRUC Pro, display updates may take up to 24 hours because the device checks in periodically to preserve battery life.

Fleet automation

Automated RUC renewal for fleets

With myRUC Pro and a connected telematics provider, odometer updates can be sent to the myRUC platform. When a vehicle gets close to its configured RUC threshold, the system can automatically purchase a new RUC licence.

Automatic RUC renewal requires telematics integration. Standard myRUC users can still manage RUC manually through the app or portal.

  • Daily odometer updates through telematics
  • Configurable renewal thresholds
  • Automatic RUC purchase when vehicles approach expiry
  • Direct debit and invoice reporting
  • Fleet-wide licence visibility

Privacy

Compliance without unnecessary tracking

Standard myRUC does not track your vehicle with GPS. GPS or telematics data is only used when configured for fleet features such as automated RUC renewal or off-road claim workflows.
